Bathing
Guinea pigs are naturally very clean animals. So whenever people talk about how dirty they are, it is not the actual animal, it is the cage. But, bathing your pet is still very important. It keeps their skin and coat clean and healthy. A guinea pig needs to be bathed at least once every 2 or 3 months. This is what you will need to have when bathing your guinea pig: 3-4 towels, tub or sink, small animal shampoo, soft hairbrush, nail clippers, treats ready. The water in the sink should be fairly warm, but not hot. If you are using a tub or bowl be sure to line the bottom with colth so the guinea pig will have traction and feel safe. If you are washing them in a sink, be sure to have the drain closed and also have something on the bottom to give them traction. Also if you are using a tub, keep it close to a sink full of water for rinsong your animal. Some guinea pigs will enjoy getting baths, but others will not. If your guinea pig doesn't like it, it will struggle. If this were to happen, it is important to keep a firm hold on it so it doesn't hurt itself. Also have a clean towel ready and laid out for the end of the bath. Finally, slowly put your guine pig into the sallow water. Gently wet their fur being sure to avoid eyes, moth, and nose areas. Take your guinea pig out and place it on the towel. Add a little shampoo to the middle of their back and gently massage it into their fur. Don't forget to shampoo the bottom and stomach area. Leave the shampoo in for 3 minutes. Wrap them in the towel to keep them warm and keep them from licking the shampoo off. From their transfer your guinea pig into the also sallow water in the sink that is clean. Rinse the ALL the shampoo out making sure to avoid the eye, nose, and mouth areas. When your guinea pig is good and rinsed, dry them of gently with a different dry, clean towel.
Gromming
Once your guinea pig is completely dry, you are ready to groom it. Long haired guinea pigs need to be brushed every day, but short or silk haired guinea pigs don't. You might need to trim your per's hair if it is getting long and the guinea pig is walking on it. Be careful when using the scissors, and only trim where it is needed. Gently brush your guinea pig out with a special brush or comb specifically for guinea pigs or other small animal. It is also good to cut your guinea pig's toe-nails after a bath. Be sure not to cut too close to the quick.
